Friendship Assembly Key Stage 2

All classes chose different aspects of friendship and illustrated their thoughts in poems, drama and stories. The assembly was well attended by parents and grandparents. The work produced by the children will be displayed around the school to remind us about friendship.

Clitherow Advent Assembly

Clitherow class led us in assembly to remember the visit of Gabriel to ask Mary to be the mother of Jesus.

Bike It

The children were encouraged to come to school on their bikes and receive a free breakfast. The weather was rather wet but there was a good turn out across the school and future events will be held in the coming year when hopefully the weather will be better.

Pudsey Bear

On Friday 20th November Olivia, Abi, Yvette and Charlotte in Year 6 organised a fund raising event for Children in Need. There was a colouring competition of Pudsey and games to play in the hall after school with tea and cakes. They raised £145.15 which was taken to the bank on Friday evening. Well Done Girls.

Christmas Boxes

The children have been busy making shoeboxes for children less fortunate than themselves. 80 boxes were collected this morning and will be taken out to the children over Christmas.

Year 6 Visit to Winmarleigh

School Biathlon

In Liverpool on 15th November 2009 I entered the Schools Biathlon. I came 5th out of 27. On the run I came in 14th and made up the places in the swim when i came in 3rd overall I came 5th. I had to swim 50 meters in a pool and ran 500 meters on the track.

Olivia Clinton Year 6

The Children were invited to discuss the Budget and decide which services they would keep and why.

Pupil Power

The children in year 6 were invited to the Town Hall where they met the Mayor.

Jack and Linus to a gift to a lady who is 101 years old.

Cerys and Marianne delivered gifts to the housebound of the parish.

Harvest Assembly

The children held their Harvest Assembly in the Cathedral. Each class took a different aspect of Harvest ranging from song to poems to parables. It was very nice to see so many parents and grandparents.

Deputy Head Boy Jack Nicholls got up very early last week and went to Lancaster Train Station to see this steam train.

The Cathedral Dog

During the summer Finn took the Cathedral Dog on his holidays. It looks as if they both had a great time.

Trial of the 2011 Census at Ashton Memorial

Head Boy, Head Girl and Deputies were invited to help launch the rehearsal for the 2011 Census at the Ashton Memorial. A large purple bus which is made out of paper using the art of origami is one of the focal points of the campaign. The children took part in a number of activities using origami and enjoyed having their photographs taken and being interviewed by a number of people.

St Peter's Cathedral is 150

In 2009 on 4th October St Peter's Cathedral will celebrate 150 years since its dedication. The children were asked to think of ways they could help the Cathedral celebrate. The children all painted a tile to depict an area of Cathedral life and these are displayed in the front entrance of the school. One of the children Yvette who was in year 5 at the time came up with the idea of the children forming 150 on the junior playground and Father Andrew taking a picture from the tower of the Cathedral. This took time to arrange and finally took place on Thursday 17th September, we are very pleased with the result.

A New School Year 2009 to 2010

It was the start of a new school year on Thursday 3rd September after the long summer holidays. The first job of the new term is to elect the new Head Boy and Girl with deputies from year 6. The children vote for the people they think will carry out the role of Head Boy/Girl to the best of their ability, in representing the school at a range of functions and to be able to tell visitors and parents about the school and all it offers the pupils. The children voted the following:

The children were presented with their badges at Assembly by Canon Stephen and Father Andrew on Friday 11th September and their first offical engagement is on Friday 18th September at the Ashton Memorial. Look out for more pictures next week.

Miss Goddard meets the nuns of Mother Theresa

In the summer holidays Miss Goddard went to the Philippines and once again visited the school which the children have helped to support over the past three years. The picture shows Miss Goddard handing over the money which the children collected after the Key Stage 2 Play in the summer term to one of the sisters who help run the school and look after the children. The statue in the background is of Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Bernadette. The sisters were very grateful for the gift of money and it will be used to buy toys for the classroom and a slide for the playground.

Year 5 and year 6 visited Our Lady's as part of Science week. They were Forensic Scientists for the morning and carried out a number of experiments to identify if their suspect was guilty or not guilty

Design and Technology in Year 6

Year 6 are designing and building shelters using a variety of materials. The shelters have to withstand a 1 kilogram weight and be waterproof.The winning design will be posted on the blog in due course.
